James Omingo Magara is a Kenyan politician who served as Member of Parliament for South Mugirango Constituency from 2000 to 2009, sitting in the 9th Parliament. He first won the seat in a 2001 by-election on a Ford-Kenya ticket, succeeding his late brother Enoch Nyakieya Magara, retained it in 2002 under Ford-People and in 2007 under the Orange Democratic Movement, and served as Assistant Minister of Trade until the High Court nullified the South Mugirango seat in December 2009 over election irregularities, without finding him personally guilty of rigging. He contested the resulting 2010 by-election for the newly formed People's Democratic Party, of which he became party leader, but lost to Manson Nyamweya of Ford-People. In 2013 he ran for the Kisii senate seat, finishing third behind winner Chris Obure.
